Where it all started!

When I was in 3rd grade, I was back from school as usual not knowing that something awaits my arrival at home. I entered my home and there sat the machine that’s going to rule everything in the near future. Yes - the computer! I still remember how I felt that day, my overwhelming happiness of getting my own computer! That fascination eventually turned into my passion and it made me a computer science engineer in the future!

Government School Teacher as TFI Fellow

I worked as a teacher (part of being a TFI fellow) in a government school in Pulianthope, Chennai. One thing that greatly worried me was the lack of technology in schools. It might not have been a huge problem a decade ago. But now, if children have no access to technology, then they’re disconnected from the world and missing out on opportunities.

Tech benefits not just children, I was able to see how easier the entire management can be done with a little help from technology. For two years, I did as much as I could. With the help of Zoho, brought some laptops inside the classroom for children, and built some apps to manage the classes.

And boom, tech did what it does best - empowering the users!

So, what more can I do with all my experience and learning?

Birth of EdZola

TFI fellowship was the exact thing I needed at that point in my life. Lots and lots of challenges came my way. It wasn’t hard; in fact, it was interesting tackling the real life problems that people face. I felt the fulfillment and the satisfaction that I craved for. That’s when I realized what I wanted to do.

Instead of being part of the problem, I decided to be a part of the solution. And that one change made all the difference!

My experiences working in low income schools and NGOs made me redefine the true potential of technology. The only obstacle in digitally transforming and empowering the Non-profits with technology is the lack of a bridge. I decided to build that bridge, and named it EdZola, where now, as a team we’re trying to bridge the gap between technology and Non-Profits. Being an entrepreneur has its own challenges, but it has been a great learning journey so far.

Software developer at Zoho

Then the real journey started! I started as an Software Developing intern in Zoho, one of the software companies that developers aspire to join thanks to the rich learning experience and great work culture. And then became a full-time Software Engineer. Since I loved what I did, it was extremely rewarding. Then, I learned and improved a lot and overall had a fantastic experience with Zoho. But…

I felt something missing in my life - felt a lack of purpose and direction. I was not sure that this is the thing that I should do forever. Finally, I made a decision to quit my job at Zoho. To explore myself and to discover my real interests, I travelled across India. I met new people and experienced new things. That’s when I came across the Teach for India (TFI) program, a turning point in my life...
